Eta Carina with a nebula filter.

I didn't have to work last night and the skie was clear enough to get the telescope out for some observing. I looked at some old favourites first, jewel box, 47 tuc, a few double stars etc, and decided it was time to try out the nebula filter I recently bought from a fellow IIS member (cheers Matt).

With the nebula filter attached I swung over to the Eta Carina nebula, man you could have knocked me over with a feather. I thought it looked amazing without a filter. The amount of detail that came through was mind blowing, and the size of it, it was never ending. I think I spent around 30 mins just cruizing around in it, absolutley stunning. I don't think I can bring myself to look at it without a nebula filter again.

Another object that shines when viewed through a nebula filter is "The Veil" supernova remnant.

Yep, the DGM NPB filter is marvellous on the Eta Carina nebula!

Craig there are several nebulae in that area, IC2944 below NGC3766, NGC3581-3603 below NGC3532 and NGC3324, NGC3247 and NGC3199 near NGC3293.

The first thing I looked at with mine was the Rosette nebular, NGC2238, with the enclosed cluster NGC2239.

I will have to check it out tonight if I get a chance. The tarantula was also amazing.

That's exactly how I felt when I first looked at Eta Carina with a neb filter. Lots of WOW factor for sure
