New (interesting?) comet

It is been discovered a new comet - P/2008 X2 (LINEAR) - whose perihelium is 0.91 A.U. and it will pass to 0.26 A.U. from the Earth. We hope that the magnitude will be low. On my site the preliminary ephemerides.

Delta is lowest in early April , it'll be above +25deg DEC then.

Will be near the Cyn/Vul border then and visible (Newcastle NSW) in the morning before dawn (if bright enough) - rizing at 4:20am EDST and about 6deg above the horizon at 5am on 9/4/2009. (GUIDE V8 calcs)

I think it's also P/2004 CB ? two comets look to be tracking each other.

Hi Ricci, Ian & All,

IAU Circ 9002 records that 2008 X2 is identical with P/2004 CB, which is an intrinsically faint comet with a very short 5.04 yr period.

Ephemeris here:

http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/Ephem...ts/2008X2.html

Which appears to indicate it might reach about mid 17th magnitude ... not much of a show really.

Sorry to be a party-pooper ...

Best,

Les D
