How critical is the balance in Dec if the RA is balanced on a EQ6 mount,

I noticed they are noisy when slewing (like gears grinding togethor) but when tracking the noise is hardly noticeable.

I guess it really depends on what you are doing with the mount. For observing I don't personally think it is that important to have the mount perfectly balanced but it is important to have it roughly balanced. Whereas for imaging I like to have the mount balanced perfectly in both axis.
