Firefox v's Explorer

Laurie often mentions that people should change to Firefox, and lately other members have mentioned Firefox, Terry (Mojo-jojo) was one.

Is this site the one you guys are talking about?

If so, what is the benefit of one over the other and if I changed to Firefox do I have to delete/shutdown/pause Explorer.

Laurie also mentioned something about replacing Outlook Express email with something else. Anyone know? and what are the advantages.

See, I'm not the total geek yet. But I'm trying!!

I get my new Pooter tomorrow and I want to set it up right. Whichever way that is.

Firefox is waaay better. Easier searching thru bookmarks, you open new tabs not windows and it is easier to see what other things you wanna look at in 1 window!!!
You don't have to delete or do anything to explorer. It will sit and find dust. Firefox is easier to use and alot more compatible with software. You can get new themes too! I use normal mozilla but its almost the same as firefox.

These products are "just better" than Internet Exploder and Outhouse Express. I'll leave it to other people to give their opinion as to why they think so.

Try it. Install them. If you don't like Firefox or Thunderbird, then you can just carry on with what you have. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I have both IE and Firefox; Firefox doesn't do a perfect job, but it does work a lot faster than IE. Personally, I find that the fact that Firefox doesn't work perfectly on some pages is annoying, but given that it's faster and has other niceties it's certainly worth installing.

I just tried to download them. 45 minutes for each one!!!! So I stopped the dowloads.

Cheryl is going off at me for wanting to change the pooter. She says 'stop changing everything, I'm used to what we've got!!!!'

Ken I have used both firefox and obviously Explorer...even thought Firefox is a very good browser....I dont recommend it for anyone that is computer illiterate...yes firefox will do more and in many case better but these extra feature are only going to make things more difficult for you....if you just want a standard browser stick with Internet explorer.....if you want more features go for firefox/Mozilla.

For me explorer does the job I want it to do with no problems at all...

I am always hearing of people that hate Nortons antivirus...hate internet Explorer....and so on basicly anything microsoft and Nortons is said to suck...

I dont agree.

I have had more virus using PCCillan and Mcafee's antivirus software then I ever did using Nortons....

Even though I dont promote Microsoft I have never had a problem with any of their software.

Its up to you...give Firefox a go but for my money you will stick with Explorer.

Thanks Tony. I am taking all answers on board. Being Computer illiterate I might have to stay with what I know for quite a while if Firefox is very different.

Hi, i would suggest changing to mozilla just for the added security it provides.

I.E. is full of holes, and will always be.

I changed to mozilla about a year ago, and will never go back to I.E.

I'm a computer dummie too Ken, I dont understand a fraction of what these guys talk about most of the time.
F/fox is a breeze for me to use.

Not having used firefox myself, I have tried playing with linux and mozilla browsers and found it an excercise in frustration with scripts that wont run , code optimised for IE that wont work etc etc. It seems there is always somethings that wont work when playing with alternative browsers.

On the other hand it is well worth using a different email client than lookout express. There have been many vulnerabilities exploited by hackers in the past for this email client. I use Eudora pro and have never had an issue with it.

Hi Ken I switched to firefox about 12 months ago and found it great, I did have the advantage of using linux though, On the other side of it Toni (The Better Half, She Who Must Be Obeyed) had never used anything like it before and she found it easy to use.
The option of opening in tabs make life so much quicke to see all your pages that you have open. Also come in real handy in Ebay have the Item you want to win in one tab and your highest bid in another and just wait for the right moment to bid.

Well, with Firefox you have a download manager so you ca keep track of how your download are going and what you have downloaded.

New themes - Customize it to look the way you want! I'm thinking of making an IIS theme for mozilla firefox.

Well there is firefox (better mozilla) and nrmal mozilla. I can't be bothered to download the new mozilla so I just use the good ole plain mozilla.

tried firefox.. found the fact that some pages didn't look quite right real annoying, and it soon got to the point where I was using IE exclusively again. So on the next reinstall didn't bother with firefox. As to security, i dont' really random surf alot, and really only visit iis, austech, news and ebay regularly. Im also behind 2 hardware firewalls at home and use good anti vi/spy software. So i vary rarely get virus/spyware problems anymore, and even when they do occur it's usually cause Mrs.El has installed something stupid like kazaa or some other stupid p2p app, which is why i've now put her on a limited user accounts on all machines

As I don't use ms-windows, I am just a tad biased.

I almost exclusively use mozilla based browsers, which includes mozilla-firefox. Other members of the household have windows PCs with firefox installed, and much prefer it to IE.

As far as things apparently not working correctly in firefox, often it's because of a buggy page was only tested with IE. This sort of thing can happen the other way around too (works in mozilla, but not in other browsers), but since most bad coders will be using IE, a buggy page has better chance of being displayed okay in IE.
