Tip for star parties

To stop dark adapted eyesight from being ruined when opening your car door or boot,go to super cheap auto and buy a set of 4 interior car lights at a cost of about$6.50 and then colour a couple of them red with a permanent marker. It gives you the light you need while keeping everyone else off your back. I tried it last night and I worked fine.

Or just set the interior light to OFF setting if you can!

As a couple of rank (and windy) amateurs Nick and I were talking about the need for red light (!) last night ...

His thought was the gels used for tinting stage lights etc. Apparently it comes as a sheet and is a bit tougher than cellophane. We were thinking of covers for torches but it could be adapted for the car interior lights.

As a suggestion and not intended to cause any offence - praps newbies such as ourselves could be prompted re such lighting (and any other) considerations prior to committing any faux pas?

My apologies if such info is covered somewhere on the site (ie. read this before coming to a star party!) - my young apprentice limits my study to a considerable degree ...

Thats what I use, as it is designed for the job being a filter that blocks every other colour. I think you'll find red cellophane doesn't actually filter out all the nasties if you were to actually measure it. Still people use it, I suppose it's better than nothing.

regards

Turning the interior light off or ripping the fuse out doesnt do me any good as I carry all my equipment in the back seat of my car and I need light of some sort to see what im doing especially after driving with Anthonys crazy neighbours blinding me with their high beams. Once Mike arrives and blinds everyone within a 2 km radius it's open season on white light lol
