I have been trying to decide if DSC or goto mount is in order. I havent found too many options for DSC's but I think that the Ioptron Cube can handle my scope so I think that it probably wins hands down in push to/goto functionality for the price (about $365)?
Does anyone have a list of the DSC options out there and their respective prices that they can post here? (if this doesnt violate the website terms?)
But my scope is only 4.1 kg as it is a short tube (500mm) newt. edit:[Sorry Alex, re-read this and realised you wanted to mount a 8" newt on it. Bugger! I think an HEQ5 Pro ($1050 from Andrews) would allow the newt some goto.]
So mine would fit on it as I have seen a long tube 114mm reflector mounted on the cube.
Russ is right though, I could pick up a decent 8-10" dob for about the same money and then I could relegate the newt to the grab and go status, IF I could fix the freakin' thing.
For a grab and go scope, the Ioptron Cube is ideal.
But for an every day working mount, you'd be better off saving for a bit longer and buying yourself something more robust.
I have the Cube and love it. Once aligned and level it's goto accuracy is very good.
If you really want to mount your 8" scope on the cube, wait for the next model to come out. It will be able to handle a great deal more than just 5kg.
