Little Egret dancing on water lilies

Hello,

We went to Mount Coo-tha a couple of days ago to practice our walkabout photography, but instead, became engrossed with watching this beautiful Little Egret having breakfast, padding around the water lilies on the lake. He was in a state of constant motion as when he stopped to stab at something, his weight caused him to sink, the water lilies unable to support him.

The lake was generally in the shadows as it was relatively early in the morning, (around 8:15am), with the occasional shaft of slanting sunlight striking the bird and due to my inexperience in exposing for these conditions, I had to do some fairly heavy post capture processing to reveal the subtle detail in the Egret’s feathers. Thanks for looking! Vive la CS3! WARNING: 180kB files.

Cheers

Dennis

The first image is my very favourite Dennis.
There is so much to like in it.

You're terrible Houghy.
You're lucky she didn't have a sharp object within reach.

Thanks guys - I appreciate your comments, although H0ughy as usual, was sailing quite close to the wind!

It’s worth noting that these were the best of the bunch from over 100 shots, the rest were quite ordinary, blurred, etc. So when out there, just keep blasting away and you’re sure to find the odd good one in the bunch.

Cheers

Thanks David. In the old days of 35mm film photography, I’d have baulked at blasting off 3 to 4 rolls of film, if I could have afforded it that is, on the chance of grabbing a small handful of good shots! LOL!

Isn’t digital delightful!

Cheers

Dennis
