last night was wickedly humid..while changing cameras in the field I too too long..any way found the inside of objective -its an ED80-completely coated with moisture-dried as best as I could by applying a hair drier on th eoutside but just wonder if this has happened to anyone before and if I should fear any lasting damage..or if there is anything specific I can do or should have done--other than take it back inside after drying as best I could
I've had an SCT act like a bath tub one - cause of rain - I prefer to simply leave the OTA tube in direct sunlight (but make sure the sun light does hit the lens or go down the tube!). Heating the tube in the sun for a few hours evapourates the water into water vapour and it tends to naturally exit the tube.
Its no big deal. It is better to avoid it as the moisture will pick up dust and deposit it on the glass when the water eveporates. Even a warm room will get rid of the condensation in a few minutes. Make sure the camera end of the tube is open to the air so the humidity can escape.
What you should do is get a better dew heater happening. This will avoid dew in the first place.
