Help me - I need the thread size for two screws on the Superwedge

HELP?

I have the meade superwedge and seem to be short the two small screws that hold the tongue/yolk on the tripod. it seems to be around the 8/36" mark but I need to find the exact match. Can anyone out there with a superwedge help!!

all Meade threads are american standard, although l haven't see the wedge screws l am almost positive they will be 1/4" 20 threads per inch, try one of the bolts that hold the corrector plate or mirror cell and they should be the same, if they are a little bit smaller then you will need 5/16" 20 threads per inch.

The thread diameter (OD) is 5.05mm and the pitch is about .81mm (15threads=12.2mm) length is around 28mm I don't think it's a metric thread but you might be should be able to work out the size from that.
edit Just saw Mic's post and 20 TPI they aint. from my calcs they are somewhere around 30 to 31 TPI and 1/5 inch in diameter

thanks guys.

i found the meade manual and it nominated this

a. Locate the two 8-32 nylon set screws on the rim of the
tripod head and remove them. Attach the tangent arm to
the tripod using the supplied 8-32 X 1/2" socket cap
screws. (See Fig. 11a., below.)

ok 8-32 is the thread size? 1/2" the length of the screw? is that right fellas?

everything on mine, being the same as yours is 1/4" so try a bolt from the mirror mount ring. why the yanks call 1/4" an 8/32" bolt is beyond me.

mick,

I did as you said and extracted one of the tube screws and tried it in the hole. it worked so all I have to do is get a couple of ones like that. Now to confirm the screw size, mick do you know?

Houghy, Do you have a machine shop nearby? If so, then they will have a 'Thread Gauge' which will tell you what it is. I have a vague notion that the thread in question may turn out to be 8mm x 32 pitch. A fairly fine thread. Best to check out the M/C shop. L.
ps. The reasoning behind this, is that my 'SLOT CAR' spur gears, made in America, all have a grub screw. The 'tap' for them is marked as 4-40. This equates to 4mm x 40 TPI. Just a thought. They do use weird threads tho! L.

Excuse me signor h0ughy, but if you calculate using the measurements, that I braved the cold, spiders and other dangers of the deep southern winter night to take for you, it will be apparent that Laurie is semi correct. 5.05 mm OD is not 8mm, but the pitch of 32TPI equates to what I measured. I am assuming that my LX90 tripod is the same size as yours. If you go to your local bolt shop and give them the O/D and 32TPI they should be able to find a couple for you. Here's a chart which lists US Sizes from what I measured I would say 10 Gauge 32TPI (UNF) http://www.sizes.com/tools/thread_american.htm

Oh thank you gracious arachnid hunter , your exploits will not go unnoticed. I have just been to Blackwoods to get the screws. 8-32 UNC with hex head.
