Carina

Hi All,

This is an image shot last night. There was a lot of high cloud, dew and of course the moon was up, so skyglow was an issue. As a result, the image is a bit washed-out.
This time around, I've learned to use Guide Dog, so longer exposures were possible. (The stars are round!)

I'm pleased with my first run using guiding software. (hey, it worked!) Still got a long way to go, and a lot of things to learn!

The boring details:

Object: Carina Nebula
Scope: ED80 prime focus
Mount: EQ6 EQMOD CDC
Guiding: GuideDog ST80 ToUCam
Camera: Canon 400d, FocusAssist, Magnifier
ISO: 800
Exp: 13 @ 120s
Darks: 7 @ 120s

Notes:
Dewy night with half moon and high cloud. Scopes dewed up several times.
Brightness and contrast varied a lot.

Registered and Stacked using DSS, 95% threshold for 50 alignment stars.
Stacked using best 80% of images. 10 images used for the result.
Levels in Photoshop 5 LE.

Cheers,

Rob

Nice start Rob.
Once you've mastered the guiding the detail will follow.
Well done.
