Sydney weather!

After months of terrible weather, there's been a real turnaround in the last week.

We've had clear skies almost every day this week, and the seeing has been quite good too. Although cloudy tonight, the forecast says "fine" for the next 6 days! Unheard of!

I just can't keep up with all the data i've got to process. I've still got 5 DSO images waiting for final touches, and 1 jupiter image from this morning.

If my GPUSB adapter didn't break last night I would've had more DSO data.

I can see a week of sleepless nights ahead!

I hear you Mike.

It has been very nice around here aswell. I am currently processing my first Jupiter AVIs from this morning. I am hoping the weather will cooperate and stay like it is. We will see what happens.

'fine' for six day straight! That is unheard of...

Hi,

Maybe you mean Newcastle weather because the Sydney weather has been horrible. Last night was typical. Absolutely clear all day, so set up early and by nine all the clouds rolled in again.

So, Thursday, Wednesday, Tuesday all cloudy. Tonight is cloudy as well. They say next week will be fine but who knows, coz the weather bureau certainly doesnt

Ah, but the last three nights there's been a clear window between 4am and 5:15, so I've been out there amongst it. Of course, there's been a lot of moisture in the air, and the light pollution has therefore been shocking. I did however catch my first ever views of the Sombrero Galaxy, Shark, and Stargate, so it's been worth the mozzie bites.

Cheers,
Jason.

The Central Coast of NSW has enjoyed the best conditions in 12 months IMO. I have been suffering observer fatique. I am almost relieved for the clouds tonight. I can catch up with some sleep, in readiness for Saturday night at the Pony Club.

Last night I spent a good 15 minutes taking in NGC3242, the Saturn Planetary Nebula. It was simply remarkable how sharp and clear the view was with the 9mm Nagler (282x). I could see structure within the inner elongated section, and it was a lovely aqua colour. The outer more circular shell was more fluffy and the colour was a faintish emerald green. I have perhaps never had such a good view of a PN from my backyard before.

I am recovering from the flu but a 3 clear nights of galaxy hunting beckon

I remember going to Port Stephens in January 2006, nice days for the most part but I remember that ugly grey low cloud that ALWAYS seemed to stream in during the evening not not dissabloodyppear until the next morning.

Exactly,

The weather bureau predicted maybe a shower but mostly fine. It's been bucketing down for a hour now. During the drought they couldnt get it wrong as the forecast was always fine, now they just cant seem to get a one day forecast correct, let alone a 5 day one.
