False Excitement!

I just walked outside my front door to cool down (it's stinking hot here), looked at the rotten streetlight, then looked for Orion.

The first place I looked was directly at Orion nebula . . AND I COULD SEE IT NAKED EYE!!!!!!!!


Then I looked at Rigel and still saw the Orion Neb!

I then realised I was seeing the after-image of the streetlight

Yep, everywhere I looked I saw a nebula!!!!!!!

I'll have to look at the streetlight more often

Must be all the Eucalyptus smoke from the bushfires at Little Desert, Geoff

The phenomenon is called "nebu-lots-city" Ken. We get it all the time here in the big smoke.
