i found this photo of the moon rising over the water on digg.com

That's a composite/mockup. It's not a real image from a single exposure.

The water reflection was probably added in photoshop, as it looks like the stars are too.

It's nice as a piece of computer art but it's not "astrophotography" as such.

i'm glad you guys are sane enough to point out my gullible moments...thanks

of course you realise that it shall now be a goal of mine to take photos of the moon rising over the water...right?

With the Moon on the horizon, the attached photo is what you might expect to see. Taken at Elanda Point in July 2007. Note the atmospheric induced reddening and the lack of crisp details.

And this effort required Photoshop trickery (combining 2 photos via Layers), to expose the Moon correctly (1/60 sec at f5.6) and to expose for the reflection and foreground (0.3 secs at f5.6).

The second file is a collage of the moon rise.

have done that previously and it doesnt look like that

Sorry Dennis but neither of those shots cut it anymore. After a pluto animation, you will have to go a long way to top that.

Still pretty good photoshop work. I know my PS skills wouldn't be up to it. Does anyone know how to approach it?
