Telescope for Canon 1d

I thought I would post here first. MY FIRST POST!

I am getting into astrophotography from a serious photography interest.

I would like to know if anyone has fit a Canon 1D (mark IIn) to their telescope - can telescopes generally handle this extra weight for astrophotography?

I am looking to get a telescope (my second) for this purpose. My first telescope was a refracting simple TASCO scope (given to me as a 10 year old!). I would like to get recommendations as the nearest telescope store is +1000km away (live in central Western Australia).

Any help/suggestions would be great. I don't have an unlimited budget but know it is better to save a little to get a better lens (telescope) than buy a cheap one.

Cheers,

Mark
