I'm no special fan of maks but if I found it on the front porch I reckon I'd make do . Seriously, it is a bit special.

It has a smaller nephew, in Sydney. Saw it once at an outreach night some years ago at Knox, but didn't get a look through it.

Ended up selling for US$68,300.

Not bad for some Intes glass!

Couldn't sell a 10" Intes Mak here in Oz - ended up in Singapore. That 12" is certainly not coming here.

Good as it might be it is hard to out bid US buyers on Astro-Physics scopes. With the current exchange rate it is already about $30K AUS .. you can get a Takahashi Mewlon 300 CRS for $27K AUS.

Are you talking about the 12" Mak? More like AU$106,000.

I was referring to the early stages of the Auction when it has 6 days to go and the highest bid was $18K USD. I didn't realize it had gone up to beyond $68K USD even though you did mention it as part of this thread (turning 60 in a weeks time and the mind is getting slow) $68K is just plain ridiculous for a 12" Mak-Cass. I wonder if Roland just mounted the optics as received from Intes or did he refigure the mirrors.

I thought about bidding but decided that I might rather have a new car and a family vacation

It’s an absurd price for what is at the end of the day an Intes scope. I thought at most it would fetch 25 to 30 but even that in my view is high price to pay. Would love to look through a large maksutov , not many comming up for sale in Australia.

I guess the high bidder *really* wanted it.

BTW I have a AP305mm Honders in storage. Offers over $A60k will be seriously considered
