Oops

whatever could be wrong.
A reknowned (just ask me, i will tell you!) and experienced planetary guru like myself set up last night for a crack at jupiter and mars.
Jupiter looked ok, but cooling system not yet working, so boundary layers made it look shocking!
Anyway, off to bed i says, put the lid over birds fantastic 10" mirror and get up for mars.
So at 5.30am, clear as a bell, i naked eye mars and start trying to find it at 10,000 odd meters of focal length.
hmmmm, this is very hard.... very very hard
So i give up in disgust, pack up laptop in the car so i can go to work and then start to put the scope..... now where did i put that lid?????
arrrrgh, there it is.................still on the bloody top of the tube.............blocking the view!!!!!!!!

Don't worry Dave, I am notorious for leaving the Hartmann mask on for at least half of a imaging run.

Cheers

Hi Dave

We pro's in the imaging business, refer to this technique as “capturing a dark frame".

Davo, you better add to your sig: 'Dark Frame doo-hicky'

That's as bad as me leaving the Lunar Filter in often, and wondering why everything else is so faint!
