Dust in Carina

Finally a run of clear nights! After pulling a couple of all nighters I've finally got some data I can process. Carina is high in the southern sky and a popular target. I wanted to try something different so thought I'd explore the dark bits instead of the bright bits. This is a detailed view of the northern dust lane in the Carina Nebula (north is bottom of image) with a Sidereal 10" f/5 Newtonian and an ASI2600MM with Antlia 3nm filters, taken from a suburban Canberra backyard. Not quite as good conditions as at a certain very nice high altitude observatory several kilometres to the south.

Acquisition details and higher res are available on Astrobin.

Kevin,
Nicely done !
Strategically framed on this huge nebula showing some excellent detail
Colour palette is spot on too
Well done !

Gee I’m under the pump to buy a 2600MM and 3nm or 5nm filters
Still using the 2600MC with Dualband , into my 3rd year with this set up
Very happy with my Klaus Helmerich CF 10” f5 Newt in the Obs on the south coast , so much light grab

Cheers
Martin

Thanks Martin,

Although a binary orange/blue interpretation of the Hubble palette seems to be popular right now, that's not something I'm a big fan of. I usually have trouble getting a nice balanced palette but I'm happy with how this one turned out. The Klaus-Helmerich carbon tubes are certainly good and at f/5 collect lots of light. The ASI 2600mm has great SNR which means that even with a 3nm band pass from the filters, there is plenty of signal.

Thanks Nicholas, I think the detail is down to the 3nm band pass on the filters. I'm sure it has nothing to do with any AI deconvolution which may or may not have been used.

Thanks for that. I have have recently started using NINA, which has a great framing wizard. It lets you check camera rotation in seconds to confirm framing. With SGPro which I had been using (and without an electronic rotator), camera rotation was a bit hit and miss.

The picture is amazing. How long was your total exposure to get that amount of detail?

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated!

John, total exposure for the image was 9hr 30min but 2hr of that was just rgb for the stars so in effect, the exposure time for the nebula was 7hr 30min.
