6th February SHG Ha Sun

Hi all

I managed to get home from work at about 5pm tonight & the sun was visible in our Melbourne skies!

Managed some scans in Ha band with the SHG and 70mm f/6 refractor.

Getting a bit low in the west by that time, but the stack of 16 scans came out looking OK.

Next step is to try the same thing at 1200mm fl to see if it improves things.

Image attached stacked in Autostakkert 3! and processed with Astrosurface.

Excellent result!!
I'm not sure going to 16 stacked images makes a significant difference to the SNR and overall quality.
Do a comparison with 4-5 stack v's your 16 and see if it id noticeable.

I can't get the spatial resolution that you get with your excellent images due to the the nature of the SHG (no lucky imaging for me), but I can get pretty good spectral resolution when sampling at 0.062A/pixel. I guess that there is value in both methods to collecting solar data.

I'm stacking images to try an average out the seeing which causes grief on the solar limb. SNR is great even on one scan, but you do get artifacts due to the movement in the image caused by seeing. I am hoping that by stacking scans, this is averaged out and gives a smoother result on the limb & high contrast areas.
