Planetary Nebula?

One object I have not seen yet is a planetary nebula.

I cannot find a listing of likely southern hemisphere candidates. Would someone kindly point me in the right direction, suggest the easiest and advise how I might be successful with my 8" reflector.

Many thanks in advance
Eric

I think Glen Cozens has posted quite a few lists in the past. Do a search for PN or Planetary Nebula in this forum, and posted by Glen.

Thanks Mike, I'm tracking them down.

I've found:-

Looking very promising, thanks Mike (and Glen ).

Try NGC 3132, NGC 3242, NGC 5189 and NGC 6302 in the south or M27 and M57 in the north.

Many thanks Glen. That's the list I'll start with.

I actually remembered I do have one already. I did previously report I found a faint smudge in my binoculars around where M1 should have been

The blue planetary near the cross is easy to find and has high surface brightness. 8-burst is nice from a dark location.

Blue PN is NGC 3918 and 8-burst is NGC 3132.

The above link will take you to a wonderful site for planetary nebulae. One of the best on the web.

Cheers, Rich

Thanks everyone - I have several good nights observing ahead!

Duh! Did I say M1 was a Planetary Nebula! Try Supernova Remnant!
