M20 Trifid Nebula

Captured M20 on Sunday night in Sydney with good conditions until just before midnight.
Haven’t imaged this target in Sydney for at least 18 months or longer

It’s a unique little target with emission, reflection and dark nebula and an interesting Star field

Bortle 7/8
No moon
No dew ( until midnight )
6” f6 Bi tel GSO Newt
EQ6-R pro mount
ZWOASI2600MC cooled to -10C , Gain 100 LRN
No filter ( only inbuilt UV/IR cut )
TS GPU coma corrector
52 x 90sec dithered guided subs
40 x Flats
50 x Bias
EQMOD, Stellarium and APT
PHD2 Multistar guiding ( 0.60 arc sec error total )
Stacked in DSS
Processed in Startools V1.7 OSC linear data set

I use the Entropy module which dampened the brightness a bit , should have used Super structure module , isolate or brightness

Comments welcome
Thanks

Pretty brave doing a quick capture of a broadband target in Bortle 7 skies but nevertheless a good result.

Is that the same corrector you're using on your other Newts?

Thanks Pete,
I’ve always imaged broadband during the new moon period as there’s so many good targets within the capability of my rig ( irrespective of crappy light polluted Sydney skies )
Also we have been starved of clear skies since October last year so I’ll chase after anything , brave or not
Yes I use the same coma corrector in all my Newts

Cheers
Martin

Well done Martin on a great image! While I can see you’re making the most of things I bet you’re looking forward to getting down south to some darker skies! The Sydney light pollution sure does force you to plan out your weeks shooting but yes I agree there’s always something up there to be found!!

A lot of things right with this image but as you say it looks a tad muted.

Greg.

Thanks Greg,
I’m sure more data would have improved the outcome for sure plus some tweaks in processing
If you saw the amount of light glare in my backyard in Sydney from both side neighbours, most folk wouldn’t eve bother imaging
These lights are blasting my yard most nights until late
So to achieve a broadband image like this one, you jump for joy !!

When I’m down the coast under Bortle 3 , it’s nirvana !!

See attached photo on a typical night ( and there’s no one in the yard, it’s crazy , light pollution at its worse )

If that light is shining into your garden you have a case with the council.
Especially late at night, the neighbour's lights need to be redirected away from your property.

Yes I’ve looked into that
You don’t know my neighbours
It would cause endless conflict ( its in their culture )
I’m selling up in a few years to downsize anyway, the house is too big for my wife and I ( 5 bedrooms ) we had 5 kids

Thanks for the advice

Gee, the neighbours lights are rather annoying I am sure Martin ...however, that's a very nice Trifid none the less, well done

That's a great image of M20, Martin. Lots of depth to the colour, and the stars are good and sharp.

As for your neighbours... The amount of light blasting over the fence is just not cool.

excellent Martin. You have some really good optics by the look of it. Your processing has done a good job with the nebula (considering the sky you deal with) and overall, it's a very pretty image.

Cheers Ray

We enjoy our hobby no matter the circumstances
Poor exterior residential lighting design and lighting control is my pet hate
Leaving exterior backyard LED floodlights on for no apparent reason is just plain dumb. The flood lighting and wall lighting in my neighbours yards is way over specified for the size of the yard , poor choice of lights and stupid positions too.
It’s like daylight , must be equivalent to about 4000 to 5000 lux
I’ve finished with my winge now

Cheers
Martin

It’s a battle in Sydney, but I’m very fortunate to have a get a way on the south coast NSW under Bortle 3 skies

Cheers
