IC 4628 Prawn Nebula in OSC NB

The winds abated in Sydney yesterday afternoon to leave a beautiful clear night with excellent conditions
I’ve never imaged the Prawn Nebula under Sydney’s LP ( only down the south coast in my Dome ) so decided to give it a crack using the L Extreme filter

Bortle 7/8
No moon
6” f6 Bintel GSO Newt
Skywatcher EQ6-R pro mount
ZWOASI2600MC cooled to -10C , Gain 100 LRN
TS GPU coma corrector
68 x 2 minute dithered guided subs
40 x Flats
50 x Bias
EQMOD, Stellarium and APT
PHD2 Multistar guiding ( 0.55 to 0.60 arc sec error total )
Stacked in DSS
Processed in Startools V1.7 Compose OSC NB Bi colour

The Superstructure and Entropy module in Startools works really well with OSC narrowband data sets. The outcomes are obviously not in the same league as True Mono Narrowband but you can process quite a respectable Narrowband rendition considering OSC cameras limitations.

OSC Narrowband Bi colour SHO version
Synthetic Luminance version

Comments welcome
Thanks

Looks great but surely you have made a mistake as you say that you used a six inch Newtonian telescope can that be right?

Your images are always so good Martin and a sheer pleasure to view.

No mistake, it’s my little 5 year old , bashed up , mouldy , $299 6” Bintel newt with a chip on the edge of the primary mirror.
It just does the job !!

Cheers

This nebula was so damn faint on live view under crappy LP skies , I had to manually frame it by using the Star field. EQMOD usually centres quite well but you need to double check before you start your imaging plan. I don’t plate solve only sync

Cheers

that's a really neat result for an osc - the filter clearly does the job. Cheers Ray

It certainly does. Its shocking how well this 6" newt does, well with a bit of skill on your part. Well done!.
You were very conservative with colour saturation on this one. Why?.

Thanks Fred,
6” newts are great little scopes, not too many folk out there using them for AP
Colour saturation level just a personal choice
Maybe a tad higher might have improved contrast a bit ?
Cheers

Great image and I agree with Fred on the contrast and saturation which will bring a great image up a whole new level of greatness.

The skies have been great on the east coast around Sydney since late May
Windy but good clear stable conditions
I’ve had 6 good nights so far in the past 2 weeks , more than the past 6 months or longer
I think La Niña has finally pooped out
Cheers
