Odd Focuser on old Saxon 8" Dob

My friend bought her first telescope last year - an old Saxon 8" Dob from Ebay. It was in excellent condition and well collimated, and gave excellent views of the planets.

It has a nice big diameter draw tube, at the end of which a 1.25" adapter is secured with two screws. Unfortunately, when that 1.25" adapter is removed, 2" eyepieces don't fit into it, as the opening is a bit too small.

This has me puzzled, as I had just assumed it would have been a standard 2" adapter at the end of the draw tube, with a standard 1.25" adapter inside it. What is the point of a 2" draw tube, if the telescope can only take 1.25" eyepieces?

Has anybody come across this before?
Was there any part sold that fixed this issue?

Thanks for any input you may have.
Regards,
Renato
