Thanks Aotearoa !!!

Just got back from another visit to the beautiful South Island of NZ.
Great weather, great scenery, great people, no litter, no road rage, great food, but boy the fuel is expensive !!!

CHCH, Aoraki, Queenstown, Milford Sound, Shotover Jet, Nevis Bungy & Swing, lots of glaciers and the TransAlpine train were on the agenda as well as lots of LOTR locations that my son wanted to see....

I went to a friend's wedding in Akaroa (sp?) last August and then travelled to Dunedin and Queenstown for a couple of days each. Next time I think I will need 3 weeks minimum.

All of what you describe. Except I could have raged myself at the trucks who travelled at 85kmh or so when the highway was single lane but then up to the full speed limit when there is an overtaking lane present.. Overall it was a much more pleasant driving experience, no cameras, fewer police, more common sense allowed.

Very pretty pictures. I haven't travelled NZ but they remind me of Banff and Telluride areas.

I used to go twice a year for my landscape photography. Getting married put an end to that. I miss it so much!

Akaroa is a beautiful place though has grown quite a bit since I was there last. NZ have some great driving roads and a million single lane bridges !!!

The scenery is indeed spectacular, we were very lucky with the weather, only one day of rain. Managed to do several walks in the mountains and up to the glaciers..

We also took a ride on the world's biggest swing at Nevis. My son also jumped the 134 metre Nevis Bungy.....

Very cool. I saw Hobbiton next to Hamilton but yet to see the other LOTR locations. Back in NZ for 10 days cruising next year mid feb. Now both the "kids" are out of the house I might be able to fly and hire a van or something and spend a couple of weeks there later down the road.

My son is a keen LOTR follower so found several of the locations....
The second and third pics above are at Mt Sunday, "Edoras" of LOTR.
The third pic is yours truly standing at the site of the Great Hall, Meduseld...
