There is one on ebay for $11 USD, from China,

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-ACK-...-/111277239353

I think Camera Warehouse in Australia might also have them. Search for the DR-E5 adaptor.
I have one i would lend you but the battery eliminator end is locked inside my 450D body and blocked from removal by the carbon fibre cold finger support bracket - i would need to disassemble the cold finger to remove the adaptor.

You could buy this power supply:

https://www.digidirect.com.au/access...SABEgL94PD_BwE

And then you will need a battery coupler like this to go inside your camera:

https://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.c...450d-500d-dre5

I don't know what that little dummy battery insert costs so much. If you can source the dummy battery that inserts into your battery compartment, then i could lend you my power adaptor.

I used a cheap one off eBay.

Although I had issues with the battery not clicking in and having to complain to the seller, eventually it clicked on. Not sure what was going on but don't expect the best quality from the cheap ones however it will do the trick.

Had my DSLR running at a camp for about 8 hours working fine!

Also the power cable that came with it doesn't have the black lines on the connector. I was told that is some sort of safety standard (can't bloody remember the reason) so chuck that cable away and get a proper one.

Thanks but I am specifically after the 12volt cig lighter version as I already have the 240v version. What I dislike is the never supplying to Australia option

Doesn't Aus Post still offer that Yankee middleman service? No idea what they called it (I have a mate in the US who buys me any items I need instead).

Maybe you could nicely ask our resident American OICURMT or WavelandScott?

Prying open the door of rudeness can I ask how much you paid and was it the exact same item? I calculated it would be 242 aud dollars posted

Hi David
Doors are thrust apart and I can tell you it. Was 116 euro plus 36 shipping. I bundled it up with a couple of other items I “needed” so it was less painful.
It’s a well made unit, didn’t fry the canon however there will be a different coupling for your camera I think. There are 4 or 5 and they are linked to different models.

I did the eBay thing previously and got a lemon hence this path. It’s ridiculous that they won’t sell to Australia though especially as the Orion dealers don’t stock them. Most new astrophotographers would be crying out for these as even at that price Its not much different than buying a couple of proper batteries

Maybe someone local is putting an order together with Teleskop so you can jump in and save the shipping?

Good luck

I ordered directly from Orion to a selected address to have it redirected to home and it had free shipping over 75us order so I got one for the 60d which will fit the 80d, now it's a question of time with standard fare is delivery to the US address then whatever postage is to home

It would be a fairly trivial operation to convert the 240V unit to 12V David - even reversibly.....

What DC voltage does the 240V adaptor produce?

My 240v power supply broke whilst I was on the road last year so I cut off the battery end and wired it to a 12v --> 7.5v adapter that I picked up in jaycar.

Turns out to be much more useful than the 240v version and has never missed a beat!!!
