Out Foxed.

Given its northerly declination, skyglow and Sydney's weather this time of year, I get very limited time to get a bead on this illusive fox.

Maybe next year I can see what colour this vixen is

Lovely. Gotta love the RHA, perhaps the best all round scope you can get.

Greg.

Hi Peter,
that's a very stunning image with tight little stars.
I suppose we should expect that from such premium optics?
Even the camera costs more than my whole setup &
has a sensor the size of a football field

cheers

Ta...well, not inexpensive for sure, but, as you are a long time looking at the lid, worth every cent IMHO.

Thanks gentlemen...the area to the right of the fox was the surprise for me...lots of plumes and interesting structures.

"best all-rounder"

Not sure.

I had to get a FLI atlas focuser (not cheap) to properly tame the F3.8 optics....which, yes are wonderful to image through, but the significant secondary makes the view through an eyepiece interesting to say the least.

In terms of "out-of-the-box-amazing", I prefer the Alluna....sublime German engineering that just works... just don't mention the war.

P.S.
If my last comment seems cryptic, the Fawlty Towers episode "The Germans" will explain everything.

Thanks for your input guys. I guess if my images have a hallmark, bloated stars are not part of the mix.

I should also mention the AP Honders Design is quite remarkable....virtually a 12 inch F3.8 APO....which makes life much easier for urban imagers such as yours truly.

You're setting the benchmark again Peter. It's been said before but that scope needs to be somewhere out of Sydney.

Cheers

I agree, its an amazing design. Also the least sensitive scope to light pollution I have ever used. Perhaps superb baffling and the velvet lining is why.

Greg.

Ta Andy...but with the moon rapidly going to full, (which reminds me, hopefully it will be clear ...(eclipse) ) that will be my foxy efforts for this year.

Indeed, it's almost counter-intuitive but large fast optics work better in a light polluted sky than smaller/slower optics.

Thanks Steve. As always your feedback is appreciated.

If I was only to shoot H-alpha/ narrowband, I ( actually, anyone ) could capture images from Circular Quay with no real impediment...such is the nature of narrow band-pass filters....

...however, agreed, RGB imaging with megawatts of skyglow is a real bugger.... and has had me pondering a tree-change more than once.
