Wow, looking good so far Al! I hope it stays that way!

27-28° is better than the 30+ we had last year But i'd be happy with hot days if it meant clear nights like last year

I wasn't going to look at the long range forecasts, just incase the news was bad.. but I just had to look at your thread

Al,
Is that forecast for Lostock itself.
I checked the weather channel, and didn't get weather that good.

Well, I went to Accuweather and entered "Lostock, Australia" and it came up with Lostock, Australia on the screen... unless there's another one!!!

An old friend of mine is a meteorologist, his attitude is that even with the very best modelling programs in the world, any weather forecast more than about 48 hours in advance is not much better than an educated guess.....and a forecast 7 days out is only a very rough guesstimate at best.

Still, good to see at this stage the modelling is on our side!

Yeah, well we take what we can get, don't we?

I just thought it would be interesting to track the forecast as we approach the event, and perhaps even look back afterwards at how accurate or otherwise the forecasts were.

Coming from Oberon (it gets cool here!) I can almost guarantee I'll be in the swimming hole regardless! If it's above 15 degrees its swimming weather for me!!!

I found this link re longterm weather patterns for Lostock Dam for the past 35 odd years:
http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averag...w_061288.shtml

Daytime stats re cloud cover don't necessarily mean much in terms of night time clouds....and I recall last year that there was commonly lots of clouds in the mid afternoon, which tended to clear as twilight approached.

It's looking good for Thursday so far - can't find any predictions beyond that.

yeh that is pretty warm! Does that mean it'll keep the dew away?

It means it has to be more humid (absolute) to get the dew to form, yes. Here's hoping high humidity isn't the reason they are predicting high overnight temps!

I'll be bringing my Sun Filter along, maybe that will scare the clouds away.

If my memory is OK, We had a problem with dew last year, it started between 9:30 and 10:30 most nights.

Can someone bring "Starry Night" along on a laptop, then if it's cloudy we can project it and see what we are missing.....
Only joking.

Mike.

If I remember right, the dew problem last year was mainly because of the proximity to the creek. Personally I'm not too worried this year, as I'll be running new dew heaters. Really starting to get excited now. First dark sky outing for the new scope. w00t!!

Clear skies,
Shane

The slight breeze on the Saturday night kept the dew at bay, it was marvellous.
