Something scary on ebay

Came across this on Ebay. I thought and hoped I'd never see one of these again.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Solar-opt...4AAOSwZJBYBj6N

I think their description sums it up well.

Note:

Thanks for the link.

I've just sent the seller a detailed message, stating the obvious about these damned eyepieces.

I hope (he probably won't), that he gets the message & removes them from his site.

Hopefully it was just some old stock they have picked up and they are not still being manufactured. Apparently that's the last one in stock so hopefully no more.

At least the seller knows the risk, as this is in the description:
Note:
Quote:

Watch time From 30 seconds to 60 seconds Excellent
No See long
otherwise Yes Explosion risk Camera lens

I am half tempted to buy it so I can whack it with the hammer when it arrives and be sure it is forever removed from circulation.

That was my first thought and it is sitting in my cart, but I don't want to encourage them to get more, but then $7 is a small bit of charity to possibly save someones eye. I think that the original source (if still being manufactured) is the bigger issue. I hope they get one of the messages and delete it themselves.

The link now shows the item is marked "You missed out on this item" and item marked as "unsold". The sale is also "Ended".

Well done Rajah and the conscientious ebayer.

At least it's metric. But on a serious note it's good to see that they've pulled the plug on it. I could only imagine the poor souls that may have purchased one without knowing the severe risk at hand.

I also posted messages re the unsafe nature of this filter, also reported it to eBay.....
These should obviously be banned for sale.

The pity is that it was different to the one in the stickied thread here on IIS so there are presumably multiple companies making the damn things.
