To take my Telescope or not.??

Wondering weather to take my telescope to Snake Valley or not

with whats going to be there in telescopes one might be a bit embarrassed to set up what i have

just joking, I'm not embarrassed, i have ball with my little Tasco. It did get me thinking though with how much i will not get to see in comparison to what is going to be down there. So it got me thinking, should i or should i not take it.

Take it, if only for comparison purposes.

Take it with you as the views thru it may be better than you expect and having it there means you can compare views you will see thru other scopes.
You may be pleasantly surprised how good it is.. lets face it Newton would have loved such a huge scope... When I first started using my cheap 70mm I expected little but it surprised me how effective it was.. and 114mm is very respectable for many objects..thats about 4.5 times bigger app than Newton had..the Southern skies were seen earliest thru a .5 inch refractor a very professional instrument at the time.. amybe you will get a tip on how to use it more effectively as well

LOL, I thought the same when I rocked up to a weekend observing
session with my 8". Only to be surprised at how welcome both me
and my scope were.

Take it with you, no scope is too small. The challenge is what you
can nab with it, and you maybe surprised. I often pull out my 60mm
tasco refractor just to see what I can nab.

I'd just like to add that its in dark skies where small telescopes perform at their best.
Of course this is true for all scopes, but I beleive its even more so for smaller ones

Ill be bringing two scopes, the 10" and the 5" newt, and both will get used.

Definately take it. You will get a real kick out of seeing something in a 12" or bigger and then going to find it in your scope and FINDING IT!!!

I'd encourage you to take it...each scope offers it's own special view of the night sky...I always enjoy looking at the different views available.

Thats another problem i will have, you get use to the sky in your back yard but when you get to a location with dark skies there is so much more viable and then the confusion settles in

hey, what if they arent looking at what you want to look at? or indeed if they al go off to bed and leave you up by yourself?

absolutely take it, every view through a scope is great big or small and it gives you a chance to try a few ep's as well, see what works and what doesn't.
l for one will be having a look through it .

All scopes big and small should be there. As with there owners big and small

I have a 6" and it enjoys the dark skies of SV

Take it by all means.

when I took my ETX 70 to SPSP I got a few funny looks but who cares about the big aperture snobs anyway? Its your scope and the buzz is in looking at what you want when you want

Pete,

If it's the same Tasco you brought last year, by all means bring it along! You can also use our Club 8" Dob which will be there for general use.

Do a comparison test between yours and others. You might be pleasantly suprised how well smaller scopes function in Dark sky.

I think you should take it, if for no other reason than that others in the market for a first scope might like to compare yours with what else is around.

I've had a ball on more than one occasion with my 80mm scope, an Argo Navis, and a green laser. (The SCT owners with their non-GOTO mounts were very grateful.)

Yes it is the same one Ken, the one we all spent so much time on to make it the best collimated 4.5" in the country

At the last dark sky event I went to, I didn't even look through the 17" or the 20" Obsession, or the 4" Astro Physics refractor, or the 16" newt, ... I didn't give them a second thought, was too busy enjoying doing my own stuff with my 80mm refractor.

I have never seen so many people collimating 1 telescope
