hi to all
I had another go at M27 tonight I managed 30 x 180sec subs and 25 darks (no flats yet ) this was taken on the new GSO 10" F4 truss newt astrograph .
using a Sbig STF8300C camera fitted with a Baader MPCC .
I am sort of happy with it bit of star bloating going on I would have thought I would have got a bit more detail out of it .
the scope performed well I think it is just my processing technics that need improving plus the lack of flats would not help (go to learn some more on this )
any comment s are very welcome good or bad

Its a good start Pete!you'll need an off axis guider with a newt If you wanna keep your stars round though,and then you can go to 10 minutes subs and you'll get a deeper shot.....very good.

Looks like you've managed to squeeze a fair bit out of the trailed data. I agree with atalas, if you can get some guiding involved (assuming you're not already, in which case it could be differential flexure) more detail will come out when you get nice round stars

You would have been shooting through a lot of atmosphere down low for a target so far north, so don't expect too much!

thank you so much for your input it is much appreciated I don't get a lot of time to do imaging but have been doing it for a while now say 2 years .
and It does not seem to be getting any better seem to have hit a wall .
I thought the guiding was pretty good I use PHD 2 with a William Optics mini guider the graph seems very flat when guiding even at 10min subs .
I have attached a RAW sub frame where the stars seem as being nice and round but maybe my eyes are not seeing what you are seeing .
this is 180 sec sub captured in Nebulosity 4 I also do the stacking and debayering in the same program and the basic processing .
the imager is a Sbig STF8300C (COLOUR ) and guide camera is a STI Sbig guide camera .
the cables are secured properly to prevent flexure or movement .
maybe when I am stacking I am not inspecting the subs close enough for any trailed frame and they just get thrown into the mix but I have looked at some of the images on this forum taken with similar subs and they look spectacular
I wish I could spend more time on this but work and family commitments bring my time at the scope to a minimum but I am guessing I am not alone .

Hi Rick
Yes you are very correct it is fairly low and my Observatory is in amongst some trees but it does get high enough to get just over the light dome of Sydney .
I am out in semi rural on the edge of the Royal National Park so the skies are dark but not perfect .

That one looks good....check all of them for a bad one...also try other stacking programs.

Good point Rick brings up about altitude but It's still doable on the right night.

had another go at stacking and basic processing some of the frames had blurry stars but I think its a bit better there was a half moon up as well It would be nice to get the diffraction spikes showing a lot better around the brighter stars but its not going to happen the back ground lightens up to much
thoughts ??
