Talking SMC Closeup - Take a Space Walk

Reworked data revealing a closeup of the central bar of the SMC and emission nebula NGC 346.

This is the best guiding that my equipment has been able to achieve so far. All 17 x 3 mins subs were accurate. Nothing had to be discarded with no really bad stars.

LXD-75 SN-8 autoguided. Canon 350D ISO 1600.

Click here to view the space walk version (1.1 MByte)

If you load the big version you'll need to scroll around because it's too big to fit on one screen. The nebulas are located centre-right.

Lots of dots

Great work Bill!

You are right, the autoguiding looks spot on, the only star elongation appears to be from coma by the looks of it?

The SMC is decidedly more boring than the LMC but there are certainly lots of tiny dots there

Mike

Bill,

You gotta be happy with that!

Lovely image, nicely guided and processed, too. I can see you've resolved stars in the middle of that blue blob of nebulosity.

Well done.

Regards,
Humayun
