Antonin Rükl, astronomer and selenographer has passed away at the age of 83.

His lunar atlas is one of my favourites.... His name will live on in the minor planet 15395 Rükl, renamed after him.

I'd never heard of him before, but after a quick Google search I feel I should have.

He was a legend in Europe in '70 and onwards.

May he rest in peace. I remember poring over his “Atlas of the Moon”, enthralled by the maps, descriptions and photos. A most memorable phase in my love of astronomy.

I bought up a big load of his Moon Atlas's in the 1990's and sold them at cost price to me, there are a lot of Queensland Astronomers who were introduced to him through me back the.
