I would first tell you to give Optus, Telstra, and the NBN a phone call... but that would be rather cheeky I suppose...
On the serious side, it is as simple as that, get in contact with the major players in the area. Most will have shops in the local shopping hub. Since you will want Internet, I would stick with the big corporates only because it will be cheaper in the long run. Bundling has been big business in the last few years.
I'm with Optus on NBN FTTP (Fibre to the Premise) and pay $80/mo for unlimited phone calls and SMS to 30 different countries and of course Australia. I also have unlimited Internet usage for streaming TV or Netflix (not really unlimited, but so generous it cannot possibly be used up in one month).
Your location may limit you to NBN wireless, or piss poor ADSL from the major operators. Wireless is not a bad solution, it is a point to point type solution, they put a directional antenna on the side of the house.
