I've never really imaged a Globular cluster so thought I'd give it a go.

quick 40min LRGB taken from suburbia with a 92% moon.

lots to improve but I thought its a good start.

Very nice Alistair, especially considering the moon being out and about

Very fine! Beautifully sharp, and gorgeous colours in the brighter field stars.

There seems to be a bit of a faint outer halo, which might be due to noise reduction causing the faintest outer stars to blur into each other, or might be due to not quite right flats. I've always found good flats to be very challenging.

Good work!

Really nice! I had a go at this one in Melbourne last night too.
Sorry if it a silly question but what is the faint green part directly to the right of the cluster?

hi Luke,
That's probably a processing artefact or a dust bunny.
I might add more data to this if its clear and remove it when processing.
should've used flats, I will next time.

Cheers

A very satisfying image Alistair. Lovely star colours. It really is a jewel of a sight that cluster.

Very nice Alistair, you kept the core under control perfectly. I never get tired at looking at all those stars.

Cheers

Nice colours and detail Alistair. Globs are great to photograph--short exposures, easy processing, good for fill-ins when you are waiting for your choesen object to get a little higher and a great pic at the end.

Thanks, it could be a gradient that I didn't remove properly, there is a "wipe" feature in Startools to remove gradients but it requires the variables adjusted to get optimal removal. It was a quick 20 min processing job, will redo. Yep flats would make a difference. I do have the gerd Neumann El panel. Need to use it. And you're right the nr did blur the outer stars a bit.

Thanks Trevor. I look at Mike's image and the hubble image and it's truly incredible. I wonder if anyone would do a 3d render of this.

Thanks Bill. A bit of hdr and contrast kept the core in check. The short subs also helped.

Thanks Geoff. That's exactly why I did it. Was waiting for the trifid to come up and the forecast wasnt looking good for later . So thought I'd give it a crack. Truly enough the clouds rolled in soon after.

Thanks. I was surprised with how easy the colours were cause I always struggle with it with dso's. Perhaps I'll stick to 3min subs for rgb henceforth for dso's
