Photoshop CC HDR is ruining my images

How do I turn off HDR (High Dynamic Range) in Photoshop 2015 CC? When I try to process my narrowband images in Photoshop CC, which requires dropping to 16bit grey scale from the 32bit TIFF output of DSS (in order to layer and colourise), the auto HDR routine wades in and destroys my wonderful image. How do I get to 16bits without this auto HDR?

If I think I understand what you mean it blows the highlights out yes?
When you from 32 to 16 there is a drop down box select the top option (I can't remember off hand what it is - maybe contrast and brightness).

EDIT:

Image > Mode > 16bit > (method drop down box) Exposure and Gamma

Hope that helps

Russ
