Keith was one of my absolute heros and the best keyboardist I've heard. I've been a fan of his for over 40 years. His death and the circumstances have really rocked me - hence the lateness in posting. I just wish he had picked up the phone and called a friend. He should have cancelled the tour and retired instead of letting worry do this to him. He didn't have anything left to prove and people cancel tours all the time.

A wonderful link. I noticed that he seemed to shake his right hand around once during the performance. I wonder if he might have had some sort
of problem with his hand[s].

A tragic ending.

The UK Telegraph quotes Keith Emerson's longtime girlfriend,
Mari Kawaguchi, as saying Keith Emerson had nerve damage that
had hampered his playing and left him "depressed, nervous and anxious".

"He didn't want to let down his fans. He was a perfectionist and the thought he wouldn't play perfectly made him depressed, nervous and anxious," she told the Daily Mail.

...

Ms Kawaguchi said Emerson planned to retire after the upcoming shows in Japan, but feared he would perform badly.

'His right hand and arm had given him problems for years. He had an operation a few years ago to take out a bad muscle but the pain and nerve issues in his right hand were getting worse," she said. "He had concerts coming up in Japan and even though they hired a back-up keyboard player to support him, Keith was worried.

"He read all the criticism online and was a sensitive soul. Last year he played concerts and people posted mean comments such as, 'I wish he would stop playing'," she added.

A tragic and senseless end to a great musician who has made some wonderful music that I enjoyed immensely. I wish I had seen ELP when they were at their peak but unfortunately they never came out to Australia.

If he felt that way, in hindsight, he should have retired earlier.

Greg.

Mick Jagger seems to have lost much of his vocal range in live performance ,and its normal for a row of back up singers to hit the highs and nobody seems to care .
