Obsession 15" f/4.5 Classic (Price Drop)

My prized Obsession 15” f/4.5 scope (#154) is up for sale. I’m the second owner of the scope. Both the original owner and I are meticulous people and have kept the scope in superb condition. The cabinetry, bearings, primary, secondary, truss clamps, poles and so on are all in mint condition with the Obsession action still spot on.

Specs:
• Nova primary with enhanced coatings (96%)
• Secondary coated by QSP with 98% reflectivity

Inclusions:
• Original Obsession shroud
• Custom made stretch shroud (which I prefer)
• UTA light shroud extender curved from matching ply
• Mirror fan
• Rocker box lid fan
• Secondary dew heater
• Counterweights built in to rocker box
• Antares 9x50mm finder
• Telrad
• Upgraded dual speed crayford focuser
• Setting circle encoders (8K) and hardware
• Argo Navis fully configured
• Provision of connection to 7AH battery which can sit in the rocker box
• Removable mirror cell rear baffle coated with Protostar flock
• Removable protostar cover for top of mirror box (reduces stray light in the optical path from my less than perfect viewing location). Sits neatly on top.
• Homemade markless wheel barrow handle system
• Reptile warmer for use under the primary to keep it just above the dew point during winter when it’s not in use. This was an excellent addition that has kept the primary condensation-free when I haven’t been using the scope

I have a Starseek / SkyFi wifi module that I’ll be selling separately which links perfectly to the Argo Navis for real time use on an iPad / iPhone etc (works perfectly with Sky Safari on iPhone / iPad). I’ve been using it with batteries in the Argo and Starseek rather than the 12v pack.

There’s no doubt that this is a lovely telescope and I’m sad to be parting with it. It’s had a quiet life at my place since I bought it in 2012. My original intention was to keep it for life. Unfortunately I just don’t seem to have time for astronomy these past years so will have to pick up again when I retire. In the meantime, I hope that someone will be able to benefit from this lovely scope and use it regularly. The views will knock your socks off.

I have used the original photos from 2012 for this ad. Nothing has actually changed since then other than the new custom light shroud, rear baffle and protostar top cover for mirror box. Inspections are welcome by the way. The telescope is located in Cecil Hills, NSW.

My asking price is $5,000

I thought that I might freshen up this ad with a current set of photos taken this morning. The pics show:

1. The wheelbarrow handles attached. These are fully removable and easily fit into the back of a car. The handles have been made such that you don't even have to bend your back to wheel the scope around (great for oldies, bad backs, hernia sufferers and so on).

2. The front view of the wheelbarrow handle markless kit. It's very easy to put on / take off and takes all of the effort out of moving the scope into position in your viewing area.

3. A typical rocker box setup showing the Argo Navis hand controller with curly cable to keep things nice and neat, and the SkyFi module attached ready to rock. I'll be selling the Skyfi / filters / naglers / panoptics etc separately very soon.

4. A full scope shot, set up with the Astrosystems shroud

5. Rear of the rocker box showing the counterweights (the bars along the bottom), cooling fan and removable baffle

6. The two speed JMI focuser

Hi guys and gals,
I have dropped the price of my Obsession 15" to $4700, which makes it quite a bargain for anyone thinking of moving up to a decent sized dob. The buyer will have first option on all of my Naglers, Panoptics, barlows, filters and more that I'll be putting up for sale after the scope has found a new home.
