There may be a shift in science support with your new Prime Minister. Over here Science funding got cut badly about 5-6 years ago but has been reinstated after a fall in popularity in the polls for the incumbent. Caused by multiple screw ups but JK is having to listen to the people a bit more now and back down on a few of his more disruptive decisions.

From what I read your new boy is a bit more progressive in his thoughts than his predecessor. Fingers crossed he pays some attention to important things.
