[Qld Astrofest 2015] NGC253 Sculptor Galaxy

506mm is not quite the focal length ideal for galaxies, but this one was in the right part of the sky, and is bright and big enough that I hope I did it some justice. Was amazed at the number of galaxies visible in the wider field when viewed full size.

Nice troy!!

I like wide shots of galaxies. I did NGC 4945 at 480mm with my TMB 80/480 and was blown away when I found 39 galaxies in the frame.

Looks good Troy. A great Astrofest with some of the best weather I can remember. I reckon we are going to see a few NGC253 images this week.

Nice shot Troy, weather was great right through and it wasn't until early Sunday morning before the fog rolled in.

For fun, I used PI's annotate image script to assist locating background galaxies. Close to 100! Annotated image here.

Nice work Troy! I actually prefer wider fields with galaxies and I think this is a nice FOV.

Only thing I might suggest, and it might just be me, but I'd probably pull that background back a touch using curves. To me it's a bit brighter than it needs to be and it makes it look a little noisier than it otherwise would.

Wow, that's awesome! I'm used to seeing 10-20, but close to 100.....

PFG. Love the colors and all the background faint fuzzies. Epic.

Wow great result Troy...looks just like Peter's ...NGC 253 is such a crowd pleaser and nice to see the outer halo showing up in so many shots of this galaxy these days

Mind boggling the number of galaxies in this frame. Bravo - the shorter focal length has really paid off!
