Howdy
Before doing the Helix, I came across a unusual PN called SP3, near Saggitarius. Whats odd is that its unusually bright yet has no NGC or IC designation. Ive not seen this one before, found it while looking through plenetaries in Star Atlas Pro. Its nice and red too, well suited to modded cameras.
8x5 mins ISO 400 uv/ir, UHC-S filters
Did the Saturn Nebula too, 3x10 mins ISO 400 for the ansae (prongs either side) and masked with 3x 1min ISO 200 for the inner detail. The dynamic range of this object is huge, like imaging M42, inner is so bright yet outer area so faint. uv/ir, UHC-S filters, mpcc, 10 inch f5.6 newtonian and modded 350D camera used for both images.
Processed in IRIS then Photoshop
Both images are full resolution crops from centre area
Saturn neb was tough, no really good guide stars available, and had to stand on ladder to reach the guiding eyepiece lol.
Scott
geee's scott. the saturn nebula is amazing. the core of the saturn neb is not exposed with heaps of details. you can see the ears quite clearly too. great shots scottie.
WOW, you have been a busy boy MR alder. Sorry I have bought a few more toys today, so I apologise for any weather problems this weekend. They are fantastic images. Coffee table book beckons Scott!!
Awesome Saturn Neb Scott !
It is surprising what U can find out there, I was surprized by some of the detail in un-named NGC clusters we were looking at last night.
Is that Shaply 3 a visual object ?
Thanks all.
I rechon SP3 would be visual in say, a 10 inch, I should try for it myself and see if its possible to see. It seemend fairly bright even on my short test images, yet is not well known.
Yes Im getting used to the masking technique to bring out detail in bright objects like the Saturn Neb but its trial and error with sometimes a few goes to get it looking "right"
