I am so addicted now I am star gazing at least 4 to 5 hrs everynight night I can especially since getting more aperture and a decent sturdy mount (telescope mount that is) even my wife who previously was not that interested is a buzz now and she suggested I buy a powerpack(which I have done, arriving Monday)so we can venture out to areas of darker skies. It's better than sex, maybe not.

Hi Garth,
It's good to see your getting all set up and enjoying this fantastic and very addictive hobby, I usually try for about 3 or 4 nights a week both visual and imaging.
The beauty of this hobby is that you will never run out of objects to look at.

Hi Garth,

Excellent first attempt!!! Sunspot 910 is has been present for a few days
now. But it is rather small, you should be able to pick it up visually. Maybe
try a shorter exposure time and possibly a barlow if you have one.

i am thinking of getting a heq5 for my 8" too. does it take long for vibrations to cease after bumping the scope?

OK, Mike as you know I am waiting for my portable power pack, arriving Monday. relos are coming tonight so I am conducting a little star party. I would love to get there but unfortunately I cannot.

Ving, nice to know you, the HEQ5 mount (from Steve Masseys website) is so damn good, a little bump and it corrects in a matter of seconds. This guy is so helpful.

I am astounded how this little Nikon is performing (CoolPix 4100) mounted on a tripod beside the scope. Did any body see an object this morning streak through the Orion Nebula from SE and continue NW at 2.33am I lost sight of it in about 45 seconds, I could not keep up with it, could have it been an asteroid?
