IC2944 in 3D

About a month or so ago I started imaging this object so I had not only a long focal length image of the area but also a wide field image of the area. I completed collection of the data on Saturday but have just got around to finish processing the SI today and of course the processing during the day of the colour and 3D treatment. This object really lends itself to the 3D look. There is a good balance of SII, OIII and Ha for that to ok. I have processed the star colours in rather than collect RGB but I might still go about doing that. It might yield yet another perspective.

One thing I am a little disappointed in; is not getting all the planetary nebula in the shot to the left. I did not realise it was there when I set up the shot and only later saw it in the frames. As far as I know it is known as PLN294-01. I don't suppose if anyone actually knows another name for it? It looks quite bright and could be quite a nice image for a long focal length image.

The image contains 16 hours of integration time and details of that integration can be found below the image in the link below.

Thats really nice Paul - smooth as silk and lots of depth, very 3D as you said.
Btw if you turn it upside down it looks like an icecream cone full of blue ice-cream.
Well done as always sir

One of the best NB IC2944 images I've seen Paul. I think it surpasses Martin's effort of a few years back.

Cheers

Yes I see what you mean. A possible final composition perhaps.

Hmm, not sure if that is the case but we are both using similar techniques I think. Martin and I have never discussed the 3D processing techniques but I suspect this is the case. It is high praise though that you think this is one of the best you have seen. Thanks.

Silky smooth as mentioned Paul, a nice sort of transparent delicate feel.

Paul, that's stunning. A lovely piece of work. Looks like a galactic Samurai has chopped through a star-forming region to reveal treasures bathed in the opal glow within.

I really like your colour weightings too. Very pleasing.

Hope I live long enough to do a mosaic of the area.

Very best,
Mike

A poster shot Paul. The sort of photo I used to consider buying in 50x30cm from the back pages of Sky and Telescope when they used to advertise them.
A really attractive photograph mate. Well done.

Nice capture Paul.

I captured the planetary three years ago in broadband (https://www.flickr.com/photos/astro_...86301/sizes/o/) and I found the following name for it: He2-72
Same as you, I didn't know about its existence until I processed the image.

Thanks Mike, that would be a huge project for you to undertake. It is a huge field of view but all of it is very interesting.

Actually you are not that far away from what I have seen. Thanks for the comments and keeping producing images yourself.

Thanks Trev, my goal all along has been to produce images of the same or better standard that I saw in posters when I was young. I always thought those posters were interesting.

While it is not real bright in broad band light it does show up quite nicely with some variations in colour. Interesting stuff. Thanks for clearing up the name. I will check my charts to see if that correlates.

Very pretty image Paul! Deep, rich and nuanced colour.

Is that full res?

Cheers, Marcus

Thanks Marcus, no it is not full res but at 2600 pixels wide. The native image after slight cropping for dithering is 3315 pixels wide. It's quite big at full res.

Thanks Graham, the movement I guess comes from the thin wispy gas going off to the left. Some of it has dark shadows in it like a shadow on a contrail from planes on high clouds when the sun is at the right angle.
