LMC - Our Galactic Neighbour

Some detail from the larger LMC galaxy.

This small section makes it almost looks like a spiral galaxy again, but without that inner intensity that Andromeda has. Lots of little emission and reflection nebula star forming regions visible amongst the mass of stars.

21 x 180s exposures @ f2 (Hyperstar) & QHY12 OSC CCD @ -15C

I'm not really used to galaxy kind of processing and am currently refining the ability to get back to a neutral black point so the rest of the colours are true. This is pretty good but perhaps a touch too blue.

Great image Dylan! Your setup is working very well. I have just borrowed an Orion Starshoot Deep Space Imager II OSC CCD. It will be interesting to see how it will compare with my old 300D and 1000D. Where I am headed this weekend cooling will be more than adequately provided by mother nature. Fingers crossed for clear skies at SPSP.

Thanks Bruce! I've used DSLRs and CCDs and I think it's really the case that the better deepspace photos will always come from CCDs. I tried each on the same targets for the same integration time with the same optics and the CCD data was just miles ahead. Brighter, better dynamic range, and a lot less noise with cooling. You'll never go back

Your image has many information about the internal components of LMC. It seems that the reduction to publish here, IIS, caused much loss in the quality of image, although.

Have you published it in larger scale ?
