Bintel Super quick service..

I would like to thank Don and Bintel for the VERY quick service by them.

Yesterday 29th of August @ 12:15pm I paid for my 2" 50mm Extension tube, today the 30th of August at 12pm we get the little postal note saying we have a parcel waiting.

Hi Andrew,
I'll have to agree there, their customer service is faultless.
Same deal when I ordered my Uranometria it arrived in less than 24 hours.

Cheers

I've only been there twice (Sydney shop in Glebe) and both Don and Michael have been fantastic to yak with. I went in asking about EP's for the 12" SCT and I was sat down by Don, who patiently and helpfully went through the formulas involved - to the point where I feel far more confident that I'll buy sensibly in the future. That was a 2 hour session as he pulled all the various brands off the shelf to show me how they each differed. Brilliant stuff.

Thanks guys - I'll be back!

I should pipe in here too.... After my "brickbats" post a couple of weeks ago, I have had two good experiences with them since. An ED80 delivered in 36hr, and an eyepiece in about 20hr....
Hats off guys.....

I have only delt with them twice. The first time was great!, no probs, only great help and advice! Now for the second time ......I ordered Uranometria 2000.0 Sth Hem Ed in the first week of July this year. Maybe it was a bad time considering they had just moved to Glebe. I was told it would be about 3 weeks. That was ok. 5 weeks later I called and was told it shouldn't be much longer, any time so it would be in the shop. It has now been 8 weeks so I gave them another call last saturday and have now been told the order was never put through to the USA because this is the only order and would cost to much in shipping. I understand their reasoning but the fact is they have led me on for over 8 weeks, letting me think it's on it's way. They should have outlined this from the beginning.
I then told them that I was waiting for thier call so I could come down to the new shop, pay for my book $105 and buy some stuff. Not just a couple of dollars worth but a Johnsonian Traking Platform $1150.
But guess what........ they no longer sell it and have no plans to bring any more into the country! It seems that JMI thought it would be a good idea to ship them one by one to Bintel, which added to the retail price. No more Johnnos people. Looks like I have to make one myself now or get a Roundtable one.

Lets hope my next encounter with Bintel is better.

Gday All,

Here's my first post - so I might as well wax on about the good people of Bintel as well. Just got myself the Skywatcher ED80 on an EQ5 mount. Headed into the Glebe store and was given a good hands on demo by Michael...first time Ive looked through a non-observatory scope! Learnt a lot from the visit - enough to buy the scope 4 days later! Next day delivery and with the scope now mounted and the Sydney weather starting to clear, Im a happy man!

Clear skies everyone.

Hello, zerohero, could you not have bought something a little bigger? You've brought on the cloud but no precipitation.

Thanks . . . some people are so insensitive to the needs of others.

IME, if they've got what you want in stock, they'll send it off to you straight away. If not, then it can be a long wait before they can get it in from the supplier. ... the way the cookie crumbles.

Sorry I didn't mean this thread to be a sling and slang match for the guys at Bintel, as Steve puts it it depends on the availability of stock as to whether they get it to you on time or not, also what information they are given is all they can give to you. I am sure they dont mean to offend anyone, good way to lose customers.

Keep up the great work guys.....

Maybe when you rock up in person you can get better service in Sydney, but
when you live long distance it's a lil different for some, I have placed to orders
in the past that were never answered, I could of been a nagler boy, but the
service from Star Optics on the Gold Coast blows Bintel away IHMO.

However if you going to post on here about how good a supplier is then
you will always find there are some folks who weren't happy about the
service. And there are quite a few. It seemed to work like this for me
I ordered a astronomiks UHC filter from bintel I got it the very next day
was really happy with the service, One of the popular gentleman suggested
I join ASNSW, I declined as I live 750kms north of sydney and didn't see
me travelling that distance. The service has been crap ever since. But that's
cool they aren't the only dealers. This is not a flame war just telling my
experience with them. btw, they lost about $2500.00 in sales of ep's thus
far. However I haven't ever dealt with Melbourne so I have no comment
on them.

regards,CS

Rob

Try Sirius Optics in Brisbane, they should have stock. I know they didn't
sell Vol2 & vol3... up at Astrofest QLD I brought Vol1, only need Vol3 and
I have the set. Excellent books I reckon and I brought vol2 for $95 and
Vol1 for $90 but I think that was a AF QLD discount as well as the fact I
just brought a PST from them this year. I'll get Vol3 at next years AF QLD

I must say that the day after I posted my opinion, I recieved an email from Don Whiteman apologising and further explaining the situation. It now appears that the book was ordered but the shipment had been held up by another book order from the same outlet in the USA. After corrisponding with Don several times now my faith in Bintel Syd has been restored. My book is almost here, end of next week.

As I said in my earlier post, my first experience with them was very good! This current situation has now turned arround 180degrees. Win - Win!
