Witch Head Nebula - A small portion

This image turned out FAR better than I expected. Don't get me wrong, it's no masterpiece, but I am happy at what I achieved here. PixInsight is an incredible tool for image processing.

The image consists of just 3 exposures - 1 each of red, green and blue. I did 20 minutes of exposure on each.

If you look closely, you can see a green line near the pinkish star heading right to the double stars below and to the right of it. This was on the green image and was a solid line through the whole frame (plane probably). I was thinking about trying the technique Rick mentioned in one of my recent posts to remove plane lines, but in the process of removing the green hue from the image, most of the line disappeared, so I didn't bother.

[Sometimes I feel as though there needs to be another forum between beginner and this one for images like this one... I'm no expert and still have a lot to learn, but I probably shouldn't claim to be a beginner either. ]

Looks like the philtrum of the witch, Chris? I wouldn't expect much from one sub of each colour so you've done well to get something that looks half reasonable.

There are a lot of cute little galaxies in that region that might be worth a go at your FOV.

Cheers,
Rick.

Philtrum - had to look that one up You probably are right.

It would be nice to get more data for this, but it's a dark site only target for the RGB. Probably take me years to get the whole lot.

Just fired up Stellarium to look what was there - seems like the NGC 172x range. Some of them are clustered too which should mean multiple galaxies in each frame - nice.
