Tsunami of Color

Hello,

It has been a long time since I posted here and I must say I that I miss the excellent activity of this forum. I just completed a large project (for me) that I wanted to share here. It consists of a three panel mosaic using 7 filters. If you are a color purist then you may not like this image. My goals were to show the structures in natural looking color tones but with a dramatic looking OIII backdrop used in more normal narrow band images.

I used CCDStack for building the master frames, PixInsight for Mosaic assembly, color adjustments, and Photoshop CC with clipping masks and object masks to blend the NB data and HDRT to make it pop (I am a layers guy!).

Here is a link to the image at 50% Res. Give it a minute to fully render and the image details link is below the image. You can click to zoom and pan.

Thanks for taking the time to look . ..

Kindest Regards,

Wow that's stunning Ken!
I really like the colours, true or not it's a very pleasing image with plenty of exquisite detail.

So much to explore!

That's a beautiful field Gorgeous colors. Reminiscent of the pillars erosion inside the helix.

Beautiful, razor sharp, no hint of mosaic structure.

Ken, is the background awash with almost uniformly strong [OIII] over such a large distance, or is it reflection nebulosity? If so, it would be much stronger in the blue filter than the [OIII]. I have no idea, just interested.

Thanks! Yes, if you look at NB only images of this region the OIII component is very strong in the background. It is different than the blue filter data as it is more uniform over all were the Blue data has much more structure.

To present it the way I did I overlaid the OIII data with an object mask on top of the LRGB-HA_SII data.

Hope that helps . . .

Wonderful work as always Ken, I really like it. The impression of a giant wave is very obvious and the detail and colours are fantastic.
It's fun to pan all the way along the edge of the nebula and study the amazing features, thanks for the view!
