Dark Matter
It is ridiculous folks that we cannot find dark matter.
Whole threads go missing at random! Is this a quantum mechanical effect?
Or is it Maxwells demon.
Only the pure of heart pass by here!
I personally think that whoever makes these decisions should go and look in the mirror and report back.
It is sad but I must say au revoir.

Bert,
You may not have seen why your thread was closed.
There was loads of off-topic stuff being posted in it, including a manifesto by a retailer. These were removed, and, the thread subsequently locked.

I wondered where that went, I was looking forward to seeing a repro (non black clipped).

We're all supposed to be friends here &
some people wrote very unfriendly comments.
It was nothing to do with Bert & he should not take offense.

Yeah I refrained from offering my congrats on a great image because it was already looking crazy in there. Don't go Bert, the others who posted rubbish can get lost instead!

Yes, I posted some KRAP and I apologise sincerely for that. I am sorry Bert, but I read your initial post as arrogant, and I got off on a bad foot. I reread it later, and apologised as you saw. Again though, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa, and I apologise!
The thread seemed to get a bit tangential and accusative between 2 people. It was edited and locked before it was eventually deleted by admin. I think you saw the vast majority of it Bert.

I tend to think that threads get shut down a tad too quickly on this site. I understand that Iceinspace isn't a democracy but we are all big boys and girls and should be able handle reading a few angry words on occasion weather they are directed at you or not.
Rather than closing someones thread through no fault of their own, perhaps a sin bin could be utilized. If you are out of hand you get you posting privilege revoked to two weeks or what ever is deemed fit for the crime at hand.
Closing a thread does nothing to encourage personal responsibility on an open forum. There is no consequence to the individual that is being anti social.
Plus If the thread hadn't been deleted I could have read it, as I never got to read it and now I'm really curious as to what was said lol.

Bert please reconsider your decision.
I implore you do not go.
I won't comment on what happened but you have the strength of character to rise above any perceived problem.
And sorry I missed your birthday..it's a big one and I did not post any well wishes please forgive my neglect.
I would really miss you very much and say this place will not be the same.
Please don't go. I beg you not to leave.

Not always a keen supporter of your opinions, or the way you can be a bit short on patience with some people Bert. And I always expect others to find me a bit off-putting. But this is normal to feel occasional tension between differing personalities, and especially in a small, tight community.
However, always an admirer and keen viewer of your photography.
2 Rupees worth [I believe that's worth less than 2c :-) ]
Sometimes adults will be children because.... well, we all are that too. But the adult part should have learned to forgive because they have had time and experience enough to understand that;
- We all have opinions, and some differ from our own. And,
- that we are participating in a forum whose continued existence depends on this behaviour.
- Forgiving doesn't mean forgetting, it means not holding a grudge, or holding on to insult, or perceived insult (this is a comment and not a judgement on anything that has happened).
- And that we sometimes need to apologise for our behaviour.
We are on a forum that is generally well behaved but where rational, and otherwise thoughtful people sometimes express their momentarily blinkered vision and inadvertently cause offense. After all, we all get a bit in need of a sugar boost or 50 winks occasionally but ignore the signals at times. So they misunderstand, and because we respond in the moment, and don't always re-read a post (or realise we really, really need too) to gain clarity, we can hurt of offend and it is unintentional. However, it's nice to see that others will step up and say so.
As mentioned, without visual cues we can get it wrong because words aren't always sufficient.
Apologies are as necessary as parking meter change in human society. It keeps us civilised. Accepting apologies likewise (see above about forgiveness).
These are just a few thoughts. And probably rambling and unnecessary. But it's a forum for opinions, right? :-)
Anyhoo...
If you go the forum looses one of it's premier imagers, as well as a source of educated knowledge, and we will all miss that contribution. The forum will be poorer for it.
More specifically, no one else is as obsessive about the LMC and SMC as you, so we lose those insanely high quality images you keep giving us of these two fascinating objects.
If you pull the plug then I bid you adieu, and farewell. If not then, welcome back, we barely had time to miss you.

The problem is people don't abide by the TOS, otherwise this thread wouldn't even be here.
Moderation should resolve the issues before they get out of hand, but often threads become disjointed if offending posts are pulled, this is possibly why that thread was pulled rather than just cleaned up.
No need to abandon ship Bert, if you the ones causing the trouble win.
