What constellation takes the most imagination to see?
When we look up at night we can see some constellations that look like what they are sposed to be, eg Scorpious looks like a Scorpion and Leo does resemble a lion. But to be honest most star pattens really don't look even remotely like what they represent. What constellations are the worst culprits?
I can't really visualise a furnace when I look at Fornax? maybe it's my lack of imagination
Bloody Octans...
I can't imagine a constellation, never mind a celestial pole when I look at this one!! (Usually in a wierd position trying to look through a polar scope)
Thank her godness for the compass.
Cheers
Doug
Corvus...a square crow? Caelum...a chisel? (blunt one at that) Horologium...now that's a dodgy clock for sure. Musca...proof positive that pesticides muck about with DNA. Volans....one would need to inhale certain substances to get that one!
For me its ALL Southern constellations I have been here since november and still can't visualise any of the buggers and the ones i do know are the wrong way up
I think the easiest answer would be all of them except the ones that are pretty obvious, like Crux, Orion, Scorpious and not many others. Maybe they were easier to recognise in the "olden days" when the sky had a lot more stars Like join the dots with half the dots missing.
I have a few of my own constellations that stand out for me. Corvus Major and the Spring-Y help me navigate for deep sky objects but the Water sprinkler was the result of too much alchohol
