I Thought He Was Joking

My Grandson and I went looking to meet up with a well respected and well known member of this Forum. I knew we would find the address by asking a few locals of the small town. Everyone knows each other in these towns.

A mid 30's looking bearded gent was the first one I asked. I said to him that the person I am looking for is into astronomy.
His answer; (is he joking?) "What's astronomy?"
No joke.
I nearly laughed. I quickly became alert and wary. I was suspicious that he may have an affliction. Wrong again. He was as normal as anyone else.

We got directions and through those we did find the popular member we were looking for. Chatted and swapped stories. I was shown various space rock, some of it famous. Also some showoff toys, nice.

Cheers

That's exactly the problem! Normal people are boring...

Are we allowed to guess here?
PS: At least that guy didn't send you to someone with tarot cards...

Of-course you may guess. The winner receives a big nothing LOL.

PS: At least that guy didn't send you to someone with tarot cards...

That just blew me away; "What's astronomy?"
12 yr old Grandson later asked if the gentleman was joking.

I neglected to tell the rest of the story as it was of no real interest, but since OzStarGazer has given rise to tarot cards that may now have changed.

The bearded gent sent us out of town,8Klm. To a house where the resident has the same name as the member I was looking for. It was the wrong person, but a visiting lady said, "The person you are looking for lives next door to me. In XXXX street.
The two people at the door looked like they may dabble with the aforementioned cards. However that is an assumption.

That info was correct and success.

Cheers

Was it around Brisbane? Maybe Julian?
I suddenly realized I know names, but not many locations of members here, not having been around for a very long time myself...
Or maybe you went up to tropical Queensland to meet cometcatcher in cloudy Mackay?

guess it depends how small a town, I've asked after another at a pub in a small town of a 100 people and they still nearly didn't know
Also after leaving a small village of 500 after 10 years I used to have ole fellas give me a wave driving through for years after I left ,, so people do know you just gotta ask enough

I forgot ,, find out were the local mail contractor lives and go ask if its really hard .

Just joshing JJJ

See, around you, it could have been yourself, Phil, Ron or Peter.

I just thought I'd throw a red herring... the description certainly fits Peter, less so Ron and Phil

Well done LewisM.

There are at least two Jeanettes in the town. We went to the wrong one first. Luck was on our side and it did not take long to find the right one.

I expect JJJ has had a bit of a giggle on this thread. Members trying to work out who I was looking for.

Cheers

Every time I drive through Kilcoy on my way to Kingaroy, I start to try to figure out where the Nettie Monster lives I at one point thought I recognised something she had photographed on Seib St, but then there is the old courthouse, so I have NO idea.

She may be shacked up with the Yowie...

So, Lake Somerset should be renamed, Loch Nettie?

I was thinking that. She's really only dredging the bottom for micro-meteorites

I assume the Yowie was out when we visited.

So, Lake Somerset should be renamed, Loch Nettie?

Too nice a person to be called the Nettie Monster. But then again I was dubbed Baddad. My kids are all very successful, Blackhawk pilot, manager at Apple for South Asia.

After a little thought I like Nettie Monster. Its a compliment in reverse.

Cheers

It's not so bad. A woman I know has called me Mr Monster for years. Most people around here have no idea why. At least she bought me a bottle of Monsters Choice Whisky.
