Thumbs up Pentax 8x40 PCF WP Binoculars - SOLD -

I am planning on selling my Pentax 8x40 PCF WP Binoculars. These are about 10 months old and in as new condition with the Binoculars, carry case and the original box in unmarked condition. These binoculars are fully multicoated, use BAK-4 prisms, have 20mm of eye-relief, are waterproof to a depth of 1 metre and are nitrogen filled to prevent fogging, they also have a lifetime guarantee. They are very light and comfortable to use for long periods, I paid $280 for them 10 months ago and they have had less than 5 hours of use, I am asking $230 ONO for them including postage, current new prices range from about $260 to $350 not including postage. These binoculars are a very good MID level binocular, the images are clear and bright across 80% of the FOV and softening slightly in the outer 20% of the FOV, which is to be expected at this price level. They are a clearly superior binocular to the cheaper products costing under $200 and are not up to the standard of premium products from Nikon, Zeiss, Leica and the like costing over $1,000. BTW when I speak of premium products from Nikon I am talking about the Nikon SE not the Nikon Action series which I consider inferior to the Pentax PCF WP and costing more money, I rate the Pentax PCF WP series as about the best "value for money" binocular available in Australia. I am selling these because I plan to go to the Nikon 10x42 SE, which the wife will find out about in due course

If interested let me know, I am negotiable on the price.

No interest yet Tony's Nikon Action, which are inferior to these quality wise, proverbially went like hotcakes.

Price too high ???

Inferior to you maybe John.....I think the pentax are a great pair of binoculars but you wont get the same support from retailers.....Nikon win by a long way comparing both...I think its personal preference.

I was going to buy the Pentax 10 x 50 PCF from a local retailer as they were the best value for money......but I just loved the feel of the nikon's.

I have seen these Pentax for around $240 new...maybe the price is a little too high....and some may want to go for at least 50mm aperture.

Good luck with sale.....hope you sell them!

Muah, is listening to Tony's advice and now offering these Binos for $200 ono shipped.

For those thinking that 40mm is insufficient aperture for astronomy remember that with the high transmission coatings of modern binoculars these have as much light gathering as the older model 50mm binoculars and the upside is they are small and light enough to hold all night in 1 hand. They are also excellent for children and teenagers due to their size.

Pentax 8x40 PCF WP again offered for sale, price reduced to $160 ono shipped

I had these for sale in May 2005. They didn't sell and I haven't used them since. I wanted to sell them so that I could upgrade to the Nikon 10x42 SE which I still plan to do. I am offering these for sale at $160 ono shipped which is a bloody steal as they have hardly been used and are in MINT condition. Those Nikon's are gonna sting the credit card so these have to go

John, I hope you don't mind if I make a few comments here. (PM me if you do.)

I think a lot of people are put off by the < 50mm aperture. Needing a minimum of 50mm aperture for astronomy is a misconception IMO. I use Fujinon BFL 8x42 and Pentax PCF 8x40 binos for star hopping and hand-held binocular astronomy and find them to be the ideal size. Here is why:

* I find 10x50s too shaky for hand held use, and 8x power is a lot more usable.
* 7x50s have over 7mm exit pupil so in practice they function more like 7x40s. An 8x40 will show more stars than a 7x50, except for young observers under dark skies.
* 40mm binos are lighter and more comfortable.

At the sale price these binos are a steal. If I did not have two pairs of the same size already I'd jump on them.

These Binoculars have been sold to Geoff.

Thanks for the purchase. Now I gotta break the news to the wife how a $1,400 pair of Nikon Binoculars fell out of a tree down the back yard
