Cannot get RAW images off of 20Da
Hi everyone,
Help please. I captured for the first time in RAW mode with the Canon 20Da tonight, got some images of Omega Centaurus and Eta Carina, but I cannot get them off of the camera and into the computer. The program on computer says that there are not any images on the camera. And I can still view the images on the back of the camera.
Any ideas please.

Sounds like you don't have a program that can 'read' them. Just a guess here. L.

Forget the program simply use explorer to browse the camera. The 20DA, like the 20D will appear as a device (drive) in an XP explorer window, you should simply be able to drag and drop them from the subfolder to your HDD. They are usually stored in a subfolder (e.g.109CANON). If you're using photoshop you'll need the raw camera plugin to view and edit them.

Right click on the start menu button and select explore, then look on the left of the explorer window the camera should appear there.

Hi Phil,
thanks for the help, I located the camera like you said. Then copied the files and pasted them into my deep sky folder in my documents. But when I put the arrow over any of the folders it says that the folders are empty. They are just blank yellow folders with no description on them at all.

Have you tried the Canon software? There is also a Plug-in for Raw images to be opened in Photoshop (I believe).

Thanks everyone for your help,
Last night I copied Microsoft Digital Image Starter, and the end results are the same. I also have the Canon programs which work well so long as the capture mode is not RAW, it can be any other format and down load from camera to computer is automatic. But the computer is saying that there are not any images on the camera.
Does anyone else capture in just the RAW mode with canon 20Da? How do you get images from camera to computer? Thank you.

Eos utility I think it's called...set it up under otpions and place a directory....the images should go directly into this program and folder of your choice....you just wont be able to view them in raw and that why I use the Microsoft raw imager just to view.

Yes Lester, EOS Utility. I use this, and it also has the required drivers. But I am looking to also try the download that Tony mentioned, especially for those times when all I want to do is view the image.

Hi Gary and Tony,
I am beginning to wonder if something is set incorrectly in the menu of my camera, but like I said it works well in any other format but RAW. Have been right through the manual and nothing has helped as yet.
So when you capture do you use just the RAW mode or RAW+JPEG modes? And then of course there are JPEG modes by them selves with different compressions.

Hello Lester, i will assume the 350 and 5d would be pretty much the same.
Make sure in the cameras menu settings, you have the camera set to pc connection not print/ptp.
On the EOS Didital Solution disk, it has CameraWindow, this is all i ever use to view and download all my RAWS, once dowloaded Zoombrowser opens and i can view them in a seperate window.
I choose all images, and it designates a new folder in My Pictures where they are downloaded, you choose the destination.
Now they are in a new folder, windows cannot read the data, so i use RawShooterEssentials, to adjust and convert to TIFF or JPEG.
I use RAW any time i use the manual settings, only JPEGs in full auto the camera decides that.
I would look at the cam settings first, make sure it is on PC connect.
Can you preview the images on the camera?

Hi Trevor,
Yes I can view the images on the rear of the camera. And If I take a image in any other format I can download it.

Have you downloaded the microsoft raw imager....the link I gave you.
You should be able to view them just by clicking on the image....
Microsoft raw imager viewer will automaticly open when you click on the raw image.....just how I like it so you dont have to have other programs opened just to view.

Hi Lester, what o/s have you got?
If it is a Mac [quote]NOTE: RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded in OS X via Image Capture. We suggest the use of the File Viewer Utility or an external card reader. Also, movie files shot with PowerShot cameras cannot be downloaded in OS X via Image Capture or iPhoto. We suggest the use of ImageBrowser or an external card reader. [quote]
I had a problem with downloading from the 350d via the interface cable, it was solved very easy with a card reader.

Thanks again.
